Seminar on Methodological Foundations of OR (BA)
Seminar on Mathematical Optimization (MA)

Content

The seminars cover various methods and applications of continuous and mixed-integer optimization as well as questions from current research. The issues arising are dealt with independently and usually individually. A written report and a final presentation introduce the methods used and the results obtained.

Prerequisites

A grade of at least 2.7 in the exam Introduction to Operations Research (or an equivalent course from an external study program) is required.

Additionally, successful participation requires an interest in independently engaging with mathematical concepts.

The Seminar on Methodological Foundations of Operations Research is open to Bachelor's students, while the Seminar on Mathematical Optimization is intended for Master's students. Both seminars are generally offered simultaneously.

Written Report

A written report in LaTeX of about 10–15 pages must be submitted in a preliminary version four weeks before the presentation and in the final version two weeks before the presentation. A sample file can be found in the download area of the chair.

Presentation

The presentation should last 45 to 60 minutes, followed by up to 30 minutes of discussion.

Attendance is mandatory for all presentations.

Evaluation

The written report and the presentation each account for half of the final grade. Failure to work on the assigned topic will result in a grade of 5.0 (fail) for the seminar.
